Ara's Story
Hello, I am a girl named Ara Ara. As a bappy (baby bird) I named myself aptly. My first and constantly repeated baby talk was ara-ara-ara. The word Ara is the first part of Ara ararauna, a South American native indian name meaning bird god, and the scientific name for my species. I am a good girl! People tend to misunderstand me, I am not mean. I am highly maternal and aggressively defend my territory. My cage space is my home, my nest. I am very sweet and cuddly to the people I like. |

Hello, I am a boy parrot with a girls name. My previous owner never had my DNA checked. Scarlet macaws are considered to be one of the Earths ten most beautiful birds. I am a Central American scarlet with a 3 inch wide cadmium yellow band on each wing, each yellow band has blue dotting. My tail feathers are nearly 36 inches long. I am magnificent. I like hard toys. Bells are my favorite. I ring my bell and wave to all the visitors. I need a new large stainless steel non toxic bell. I also like hard lucite toys. |

Hello, I am a very sweet boy. I was bred in Florida for the pet trade and sent to New York City. My second owner Carol saw me for sale in a pet store. The cage was so small I could hardly turn around. I was dirty. She felt sorry for me and bought me on impulse. It wasn't long before she regretted her decision. She worked all day and didn't have time for me in the evening. I screamed for attention and to make matters worse all her furniture got a daily coating of my dander (a white powdery dust). |

Hello, I am a boy. I am very smart. I talk and whistle. For years I was in perfect shape. Hurricane season 2005 changed my life. July 8th, the day before Hurricane Dennis hit Key West, I began to pull out my feathers. Three days later most of my outer feathers were gone or severely tattered. I left the inner down. I did the same plucking for Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma. I like bells, and musical toys. |

Isis's Story
I am Isis, also known as "white bird". I' ve had three prior homes. A fatal car crash tragically ended the life of my first owner. My stay was short at the next place. I ran around on the floor trying to bite toes. The woman of the house didn't like it. Next, I lived with a man for three years until he got sick, lost his job and couldn't support me. He smoked cigarettes, fed me oreo cookies, saltine crackers and beer. I say with enthusiasm "You want a beer? Eating junk food and alcohol gave me serious health problems.

Hello, I am a male Harlequin macaw. I am a hybrid like Chatsworth who is a Catalina macaw. I am a cross between a Blue and Gold and a Greenwing macaw. We look alike but our personalities are different. I'm mellow like the Greenwings, she's nippy like the Scarlets. I've had several owners before retiring. I worked the bar at The Bamboo Room in Key West and at Mangrove Mama's up the Keys. I like crowds, loud disco music, dancing, cranberry juice and sweat red maraschino cherries. |

Hi, I am a gorgeous boy. I am the strongest bird here and a power house of energy. I weigh the most, have the biggest feet and the strongest busy beak. I go through toys fast. My outdoor cage is old and to small for me. I need a big strong cage for my health and the safety of others. It needs to be really strong because I am a great escape artist and can break and bend most parrots cages. Please contribute to my outdoor cage fund. |

Dulce's Story,
I'm a boy also known as "wanna dance". Like most cockatoos I am very sweet and need a lot of attention. I say "I love you", sing "La La-La La -La" and dance by swaying back and forth. I'm learning Frank Sinatra's "Scoobie-Doobie Do" . When I am bored, I scream for attention and over preen my feathers. I need preening, foraging and puzzle toys to keep me occupied. I like a daily treat of Lafebers nutri-berries with papaya. |

Molly's Story
Molly is another example of the many boy birds with a girls name. Both sexes look exactly the same with the possible exception of eye color. Molly is a very loveable cockatoo who prefers female humans. He has had at least three previous owners. When asked, Molly gives little kisses and big smooches. Molly screams for attention loud and long and does not show any desire to please humans who need quiet time. When out and about in town he is very gentle, co-operative and well behaved. |

Hi, I am a boy. I was a gift to a child who did not want me when he grew up and went away to college. I still like kids, especially little boys. I am everybody's favorite. I flirt with all the visitors, I say "Hi Baby" "Whatcha Doing" and cackle like the wicked witch. I whistle loudly but my soft melodic whistling is a treat to hear and should not to be missed. Surrounding my brown hawk like face is a ruff of blue and red tipped feathers amazing to see when raised like an American Indian Headdress. |

Hello, my name is Mango. Nobody knows the circumstances that led to my flying free in the city. Lucky for me, I did not get eaten by the hungry hawks. I was rescued by a man who whistled me down from a tree. I was lonely so I joined him. My behavior alternated from being gentle on his hand to biting. Ouch! He threw me in a wastepaper basket put a towel over the end and hauled me to the Mana Project. No one claimed me. |

Coco's Story
Coquette and I have been together for at least five years. We are recent additions to the flock. Everyone insisted I was a boy, until a recent DNA test proved otherwise. Our last owner's admittedly didn't know how to care for us. They thought we were Military macaws. We spent three years in the bar area of their restaurant, The Garden, an open air establishment on noisey Duval Street. I am a feather plucker and have bald patches. I am friendly, like to be handled, give kisses, and eat a large varity of foods. |

Coquette's Story
Coco and I are cute mini-macaws. Our prior lives are a mystery. We've had several homes, the last one lasted four years, three hectic years at the restuarant and then one lonely year in their backyard.. We squabble, feed and preen each other and cause a ruccus. I can be held but I don't like it. I am insanely jealous and very aggressive when Coco gets attention. The two of us laid three eggs Sept.of 2007, reputed to be our first. Toys are not interesting to me. I am learning to expand my palette. I like pistachios. |

Hello, I am a girl named Bilbo. My first human stopped spending time with me and banished me to the laundry room when his children were born. My second human was perfect, life was bliss, I flew free in our house, danced on his shoulder while he composed music and layed eggs for him. He jilted me by marrying a female human. My relationship with him ended when I became jealous and aggressive towards her.. |

Hello, I am a boy. I'm an intelligent green bird with beautiful expressive amber colored eyes. I am fifty years old and intend to make my eighties. My first owner Mary died in 1971. I talked to her in English with a vocabulary of 100 words. She taught me to do a somersault. I stopped talking when she died and I have not given my heart to anyone since. I prefer not to be handled. I am moody, I lunge and bite. Occasionally I like my head to be scratched. A piece of fresh corn makes my day! |

Hello, I am a girl. Years ago I was someone's beloved pet. I was very tame, gentle, loved to cuddle and I never bit. Often humans get tired of the responsibility of having to pay a lot of attention to their parrots. Sometimes they buy another parrot as the solution, thinking a bird partner for their parrot will make both of them content. Sometimes it works, in my case it didn't. I tolerate Pascal but I'd rather be loved and cuddled again one on one by a human being. |

Hello, I am a boy. I was never tamed to be a pet like Sererine. I don't trust humans and I do not want to be held. We were put together with the hopes that we would fall in love and become a bonded pair. She is good company for me, unfortunately I like her more than she likes me. I would really miss her and be lonely if she wasn't with me. |
